To get your plumbing ready for Easter, you should ensure that all of your pipes and fixtures are in good working condition. To Check Your Drains:
- Run water from all taps for a few minutes to ensure that the water is flowing smoothly.
- Run water down each drain to see if it flows smoothly and quickly.
- Check for any strange noises or odours coming from the drains.
- Check for any leaks or drips around the base of the drain.
To Check for Leaks:
- Check pipes for visible leaks or damage.
- Check around sinks, taps, faucets and showerheads for drips or pooling water.
- Check flexi hoses don’t have leaks, rust spots, bulging sections on the metal exterior or fraying or kinking. (A burst flexi hose, flooding your house in the middle of the night is not something you want to be waking up to).
To Check Your Toilet:
- Check around the base of the toilet for any leaks or puddles.
- Check for running water. You can do this by adding a blue loo or a couple of drops of food colouring to the water in your cistern. Leave it a while and come back. If you come back and there is coloured water in your bowl you have a leak between your cistern and toilet.
- Flush the toilet and check the water is not rising in the bowl and slow to drain.
To Check Your Hot Water System:
Check for any leaks around your hot water system, including the pressure relief valve, pipe and tank to make sure it is not leaking. If it is leaking, contact a licensed plumber to have it repaired or replaced.
